Last Friday was Tyron Brown’s last day as our Volunteer Coordinator Intern. An individual with the ability to make anyone feel at ease, Tyron is best described as a master of social interactions. Tyron has worked tirelessly to provide outreach to the people of the Binghamton community as well as work to bridge the gap between residents and college students. When asked for some of his thoughts on his time with us, Tyron gave us some valuable feedback and reflection:
This past semester, I had the chance to explore the realm of urban agricultural nonprofit organization as an intern for VINES. As a volunteer coordinator intern, I was responsible for recruiting volunteers for VINES. This gave me the opportunity to interact with the VINES staff and board members while executing our goal of community outreach. Collectively, we were able to generate the processes of our farm share distribution to local residents within the Binghamton community while also educating them through our Green Thumb Education Series and raising funds to stimulate the organization. The plethora of experiences I had while doing this internship exposed my desire to help others in need of resources as well as delivering experiences to people who felt they did not belong to a community. I believe that VINES will continue to prosper as an organization because they really understand the needs of their community, they implement the necessary procedures to adhere to those needs and most of all they satisfy those needs with their food operative initiatives and resilient volunteerism. VINES is more than just a nonprofit organization; it is a vital resource for the sustainability of the Binghamton community.
Tyron was a vital part of the VINES team for the time he was here, and his moving on from college into the next stage of his life is a bittersweet moment for us all. Regardless, we wish him nothing but success in the coming years! Thanks, Tyron!
VINES’ 2014 Fall Fundraiser was a smashing success. But we wouldn’t have had anything without the help of our friends and supporters! We wanted to give a special thanks to local businesses who gave their time, money and space to host us that evening.
