Utilize your creative or artistic talents to support VINES!
VINES and the new Artisan Row on Court St Binghamton – Laveggio Roasteria, The Loft at 99, and Chroma Café & Bakery- seek artists and crafters to create functional or artistic items from recycled burlap coffee bags. Items will be featured in a silent auction at the VINES Coffee Bag Silent Auction Fundraiser on Saturday, November 15th 3pm-5:30pm on Artisan Row. Auction proceeds raised will benefit VINES.
Burlap coffee bags are for sale $6/bag at Laveggio Roasteria located on 101 Court St in Binghamton, NY. This sale will occur during regular store hours Monday – Friday 7:30-4:00 and Saturdays 9:00-1:00. Burlap Coffee Bags come to Laveggio from all over the world carrying 120-150 pounds of green coffee beans and often exhibit exotic images or writing. After purchasing a burlap bag, artists bring it home to create an item of their choice and then submit these creative projects as a donation for the silent auction. Burlap is a great medium for repurposing furniture, sewing projects, as canvas, and much more. These items will be put on display and up for bid the day of the event. Entries due to Laveggio November 10th.

Just a friendly reminder that our Garlic Planting Workshop is happening this Saturday, October 18th. Join the Urban Farm Manager Sean Cummings and participate in the planting of next season’s garlic crop. While there, you’ll learn how to select good quality garlic seed, how to plant it, space it, and mulch it for higher survival rates over winter. We’ll also talk about how garlic varieties are made. There are possibly hundreds of distinct varieties of garlic out there in the world–so why not create your own? Garlic is highly responsive to changes in growing conditions, so with some work and planning, you can start your own unique kind of garlic!
